How these are written

The guides on this site are written against two things rather than one: the documentation the operators publish about their own crawlers, and what our audit engine reports when it fetches a real page. Where those two disagree, the article says so. Where a claim cannot be supported by either, it does not get published.

That standard is the reason most of these pieces are shorter than the topic would allow and carry a sources list at the end. A figure about another company arrives with the page it was read from and the date it was read, because vendor pricing and platform behaviour both change quietly and an undated number is an anecdote. Measurements of our own come from published studies with the sample size and the method attached.

Corrections happen in public. When Google withdrew the FAQ rich result in May 2026, the articles here that recommended the markup were edited to say what changed and why the markup is still worth shipping for a different reason, rather than quietly left as they were.
