review request template

The timing does more work than an enthusiastic adjective. A request sent after the customer has seen the result is relevant; the same message sent after payment can feel like a demand for trust before the work exists.

For replies to feedback already received, use the negative review response prompt.

The prompt 151 words
Write a review request based on a completed customer outcome.

Produce: one email under 120 words with subject and preheader; one SMS under
240 characters; one receipt or post-service line under 30 words; and a
follow-up sent once only if there is no response.

Confirm what was completed in specific, neutral language. Ask for an honest
review, never a positive or five-star review. Give one direct review link.
Include a separate support route for a customer who needs help, without using
it to divert unhappy customers away from reviewing. Do not offer an incentive,
gate recipients by satisfaction, create urgency or imply that staff pay
depends on the rating. Do not invent the customer name or service detail.

Add a SEND CHECK: outcome complete, link tested, consent/channel allowed,
platform policy checked, suppression respected, follow-up limit one.

How to run it

  1. 01
    Choose an outcome trigger

Ask when the customer has had enough time to judge the work, not merely when an automation field changes.

  2. 02
    Test both routes

Open the review link and support route on a phone before enabling the message.

  3. 03
    Respect a no

Suppress unsubscribed contacts and stop after one follow-up.

Questions people ask

How do you politely ask for a review?

Refer to the completed purchase or service, ask for an honest review, provide one direct link and keep the message short. Make support available without conditioning the review request on satisfaction.

When should you send a review request?

Send after the customer has experienced the outcome: after delivery and use, completion of a service, or resolution of a support case. The right delay depends on how quickly the result can be judged.

Can you offer an incentive for a review?

Platform and consumer-protection rules vary, and incentives can bias or disqualify reviews. Check the destination platform and applicable law before offering anything; this template uses no incentive.
