Product description evidence edit prompt
A copyable prompt that checks every product claim against your source record before it rewrites generic AI product copy for a real buyer.
- You need
- Current product description · Verified specifications and policy terms · Buyer question or presale objection
- Written for
- ai product description writer

Product copy becomes more persuasive when it helps somebody choose. That usually means a specific difference and an honest limit, rather than a louder adjective.
This prompt starts with a claim ledger because product descriptions are easy to make more fluent and harder to make more accurate. The ledger lets an editor see which promises the draft already makes before a rewrite hides them in smoother prose.
Use it alongside the guide to humanizing AI product descriptions. If your catalog has many near identical variants, first decide which facts truly differ; the catalog scale product description prompt covers that upstream job.
Act as a product copy editor. Your job is to make this description useful to
a buyer without adding a single product fact that is absent from my source
record. Do not draft until you finish the claim check.
Product and variant: [PRODUCT AND VARIANT]
Current description: [PASTE DRAFT]
Verified source record, with dates where relevant: [PASTE SOURCE RECORD]
Buyer's main question before purchase: [BUYER QUESTION]
Brand voice sample, if available: [VOICE SAMPLE]
Phase 1 — claim ledger. Make a table with each concrete or implied claim in
the draft, the exact source line that supports it, and one status: supported,
needs human verification, or unsupported. Include claims hidden in words
such as durable, safe, eco-friendly, universal and guaranteed. Do not infer
performance from a material or one customer review.
Phase 2 — buying decision. In two sentences, explain what a buyer can decide
from the supported facts and which missing fact would most change that
decision. Keep limitations visible. If the source cannot answer the buyer's
main question, say so before writing copy.
Phase 3 — rewrite. Write a short description with the useful difference
first, then only the supported details. Preserve exact measurements,
compatibility, included parts and care wording. Do not invent a testimonial,
use case, certification, warranty, stock level or emotional story. Put any
unresolved detail in [VERIFY: ...] brackets rather than smoothing it over.
End with a publication checklist of facts that a person must confirm in the
live product system. Keep the result shorter than the original unless the
original omitted a verified detail the buyer needs. What to change
Everything in square brackets is yours to replace. Nothing else needs editing.
[PRODUCT AND VARIANT]- Name the exact SKU or variant so the edit does not blend sizes or finishes.
[PASTE DRAFT]- Include the current page copy, including bullets and claims in headings.
[PASTE SOURCE RECORD]- Use the current product record, care instructions, warranty and approved claim language.
[BUYER QUESTION]- Choose the question support hears most often or the concern that delays a purchase.
[VOICE SAMPLE]- Optional: a published description from the same brand. Do not use competitor copy.
How to run it
- 01Collect the current record
Copy facts from the product system and policy pages. Note when measurements, compatibility and price were last confirmed.
- 02Read the claim ledger first
Resolve every unsupported or uncertain claim before using the rewrite. A smooth draft cannot make an unverified benefit true.
- 03Check the exact variant live
Compare the revised description against the publishing system, then inspect the page as a shopper would.
Questions people ask
Can this prompt verify product claims automatically?
It can compare a draft with the record you paste. It cannot verify that your source record is current or that a claim is legally approved; a person must do those checks.
Why does the prompt keep verification markers in the copy?
A visible gap prevents the model from replacing a missing fact with a plausible but false benefit. Resolve or remove every marker before publishing.
